Prospective Students

Our research group looking for graduate students in Fall 2024 to work on the tectonic evolution of the Northwest Cascades. Please reach out via email if you are interested.

Current Students

• Nick Cunetta: Nick received his B.S. from Tufts University and is studying the deformation history of high-grade subduction rocks in the Easton Metamorphic Suite, northwest Washington to test models of metamorphic sole formation during subduction initiation. Co-advised with Liz Schermer.

• Emily Gates: Emily recevied her B.S. from UC Santa Barbara and is studying the deformation history of regional blueschsit facies rocks in the Easton Metamorphic Suite, northwest Washington to test models for underplating and accretion in subduction systems.

• Kalieh Singleton: Kalieh received her B.S. from Western Washington University and she is working on the timing and correlation of ophiolite units within the Northwest Cascades Thrust System.

Graduated Students

• Katie Lang (Graduated, M.S., 2023): U-Pb Zircon Geochronology and Structure of regional blueschist units in the Easton metamorphic suite, Northwest Cascades, WA.

• Tomas Urbina (Graduated, B.S., 2022): Regional correlations of subduction zone units in the northwest Cascades.

• Peter Baker (Graduated, M.S., 2020): Timing and conditions of metamorphism in the Cascades Crystalline Core. After WWU: Working in the Geochemsitry Lab as Washington State University.

• Andra Nordin (Graduated, B.S., 2019): Timing of oblique motion of the La Puntilla -- La Falda shear zone in northwest Argentina from monazite U-Pb geochronology. After WWU: Employed with the WA Department of Natural Resources.

• Wes Johns (Graduated, B.S., 2018): Timing and kinematics of intra-arc deformation in the middle crust of the Famatina arc. After WWU: NAGT-USGS Internship, Employed with the USGS in Seattle, Pursuring and M.S. and University of Nevada, Reno.

• Andy Tholt (Graduated, M.S., 2018): Metamorphic evolution of the Sierra de Maz: Implications for the timing of terrane accretion on the western margin of Gondwana. After WWU: Pursuing a PhD at UC Berkeley.

• Jeremy Cordova (Graduated, M.S., 2017): Initiation and evolution of subduction: T-t-D History of the Easton Metamorphic Suite, northwest Washington State. Co-advised with Liz Schermer. After WWU: Employed in the mining industry.
